Pregnant. Working. Exhausted.

Except for a short period of time in your 2nd trimester, one thing remains true throughout your pregnancy:


Barely keeping your eyes open at 7:00 pm and falling asleep on the couch. And then the 3rd trimester physical exhaustion kicks in- back hurts after standing for too long, your ankles are swollen and you cannot, for the life of you, get comfortable to get a solid full night's sleep.

Majority of women do all of this while still working full time. How do they do it? How do they make it through without taking a sooner maternity leave? I believe there are some strategies you can do to help with the exhaustion and to make sure you are getting rest.

First of all, don't allow yourself to feel guilty for taking a nap or resting. Go to bed early if you want to. Communicate with your husband/partner that you just need to lay down for an hour so that way you can have a fun Friday night together. Say NO to going out with your friends; I promise they will still like you. And don't feel guilty about any of this! Guess what? Women don't have to do it all and we are allowed to rest when we need it. For some of us, it's extremely difficult to communicate what we need because if we do, we will seem selfish to others. I'm here to tell you that especially when you are pregnant, communicating what you want/need in regards to rest will help set you up for success when you become a mother.

Secondly, drink TONS of water. You are already peeing every 10 minutes as it is, so you might as well make sure you are hydrated while you're at it. Make it a routine. Take one of those giant jugs to work and drink the entire thing before you leave for the day. Really picky about what kind of water bottle you drink out of? Treat yourself and buy something that is cute and that you know you'll use on a regular basis. Water can be the key to taking care of so many ailments and discomforts that you may have during pregnancy. And guess what else? It can give you energy.

Take care of yourself mama! You deserve it.
